Trunk or Treat!
Wednesday, October 30th, 5-7pm
The Farmworker Resource Center and Reiter Pacific Farms are teaming up to host a Trunk or Treat event. They are excited to extend the invitation to all partnering agricultural employers to join in the festivities. Employers are welcome to decorate their trunks and hand out treats to farmworker families. This will be a great way to celebrate the season, connect with the community, and have some fun outside of work.
They’ll be holding our first planning meeting this Monday to start working out event details, so if your company is interested in joining or would like more information, please let me know. Contact Cesar Guerrero at 805 354-4369 to get involved!

Shadows Fund Benefit
November 16th
The Maker's Son, Los Alamos
Shadow’s Fund, a local nonprofit animal sanctuary, is looking for winery sponsors and auction donors for their 3rd Annual Benefit, “There’s No Place Like Home”. The benefit celebrates and supports their work to keep dogs in their homes, to help shelter dogs find homes, and for those dogs who need a little more help.
Founded in 2009, Shadow’s Fund has earned a reputation for advocating for dogs often overlooked for adoption, including seniors, pit bull-type dogs, and those facing medical or behavioral challenges. If you are not familiar with Shadow’s Fund, take a few minutes to watch their amazing story .
The Benefit supports the operation of the sanctuary, currently home to 53 dogs, as well as horses and pigs, and funds community programs that prevent pets from entering shelters and help shelter dogs find permanent homes.

AB732 signed by the Governor
Agricultural Commissioner Chang wanted to share the following because the abatement process has typically been the standard course of action, and this is a change. There have been cases where abandoned properties had to go through an abatement process — a time-consuming and often costly approach for property owners. This new procedure allows those issues to be addressed more efficiently by issuing a notice and then fines. This bill would authorize a county agricultural commissioner, instead of imposing a lien, to levy a civil penalty against a person who maintains a pest-related public nuisance in violation of the above-described prohibition, and would exclude from the definition of pest a beneficial organism that is used as a biological control agent or a conservation practice standard or on-farm management practice, as specified. Read the entire bill here.
